Amazon is winding down its drone delivery operations in Lockeford, California, one of the earliest U.S. test sites for the ambitious project. The company said it plans to bring drone deliveries to more U.S. cities, including part of the Phoenix area, later this year.

Consumer drones are affordable and designed for recreational use. They are easy to fly and come with basic features such as a camera, GPS, and altitude hold. The average cost of a consumer drone ranges from $50 to $1,000.

These drones use vertical take-off to get off the ground, before transitioning into horizontal, wing-borne flight. They can carry packages up to five pounds and deliver to customers quickly—typically in one hour or less.
